Acuity International is currently seeking a Registered Nurse – Operating Room to support our Gobal Health Services program in Haiti.

The OR Nurse may be assigned to deliver health care and treat patients in one of two settings:

(1) Small medical/trauma hospitals,

(2) Field/Mobile hospital

(3) Large medical/trauma hospital

OR Nurses report to the Program Manager and are clinically supervised by the site medical director and work under the direction of a Physician, Surgeon, or Anesthetist.

Location: Deploying to Haiti

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Practice their specialty based on demand in their work setting.
  • Promotes and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staffs; providing physical and psychological support for patients, friends and families; supervising assigned team members.
  • Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Promotes patient’s independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, and family and reinforcing their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division’s philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing; State Nurse Practice Act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Assists with the managing of day to day activities and prioritizing tasks.
  • Operates personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software.
  • Complies with all applicable CHS standards and guidelines.
  • Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • All Health Care Providers (HCPs) will document care delivered and follow up care required.
  • Maintains the highest regard for patient dignity and observe the precepts of the American Hospital Associations Bill of Rights for patients.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an Associate, Diploma, or Baccalaureate degree from accredited school of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) must have twelve (12) months of Operation Room clinical experience within the last thirty-six months 3 years) . Experience must include all phases of a multi-service ambulatory surgical center or hospital operation room. Documentation of formal operation room surgical nurse training is required; a verification letter or certificate from the institution of training is acceptable.
  • Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse; membership in the Nursing Specialty professional association is desirable.
  • Maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Medical-surgical nurses provide health promotion and basic medical care to patients with various medical and surgical diagnoses;
  • All health care providers and medical support staff must have recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year

Requirements:

  • Must have a current passport.
  • Must be Fluent in speaking and writing English.
  • Favorable background check.
  • Must sign an International Assignment Agreement.
  • May be required to attend specialized training.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must undergo a pre-deployment physical and meet fitness for duty requirements.
  • No conditions that would prevent the wear of personal protective equipment; including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor and chemical/biological protective garments or conditions that would prevent the capability of donning, lifting or carrying of up to 70 lbs. of referenced gear while running to a bunker or protected area in the face of perceived or imminent danger.
  • Location of services may at times be in remote, austere or challenging environments.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting as required for patient care and transport.
