Job Description:

Learn from Travel is seeking experienced guides for a short-term study abroad program in The Bahamas. The Student Group Guide and Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of program delivery on the ground in the destination country, and serves as the primary point of contact for the client and for service providers in the destination. This position is equal parts logistics and customer service. This is a temporary, project-based position with potential for seasonal and part-time employment.

Objectives:

In order of priority, the Guide and Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the group has a: safe, impactful, educational, and enjoyable experience in the destination country.

Responsibilities:

Before Program Start:

-Review and understand group itinerary, program objectives
-Review and update, if needed, emergency plan for the program
-Visit and/or contact service providers (lodging, meals, activities, and transportation) in the destination country to confirm reservations
-Communication with students and professors via video conference or email may be required

During Program:

-Arrive to destination one or several days prior to the group’s arrival
-Greet group at the airport
-Accompany group during the entire program until their departure. During this time the Guide and Coordinator is fully available to the group during all scheduled activities and for emergencies at other times.
-Pay for services with cash or company credit card, retain hard copies of receipts in an organized fashion, make digital copies of receipts, keep a record of cash expenses, balance cash expenses with cash on hand on a nightly basis.
-Serve as a professional, friendly, and informed host, translator and tour guide.
-Stay in lodging facilities with the group, share meals with the group, and facilitate group activities.
-When necessary, provide cultural, historical, and political context to support program activities and facilitate learning. The Guide and Coordinator should be very familiar with all aspects of the destination country.
-Ensure smooth logistics for all activities by confirming reservations, communicating with service providers, adapting to any schedule changes, and keeping group on time
-Facilitate group activities with language translation, cultural interpretation, and guiding questions.
-Regularly check in with group leaders and LFT leadership to guarantee a high-quality experience
-Resolve emergencies and conflicts if they arise
-Document the program with photos and videos when possible, sharing best photos and videos to LFT leadership for social media use
-Collect feedback from students and professors

After Program:

-Provide and discuss feedback on group with LFT leadership
-Complete cash expense journal with final balance vs. cash on hand
-Send hard copies of receipts to LFT headquarters

Qualifications:

-Fluency in English
-1-2 years customer facing experience in eco-tourism, field-based international education, international service-learning, or similar sector of the travel industry
-Experience with cash management
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Gregariousness, strong interpersonal skills, and passion for customer service
-Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think on the spot
-Familiarity with the destination country through travel, work, or live abroad experiences. Particularly, familiarity with The Bahamas is desired.
-Prior Peace Corps or similar long term immersive experience in foreign country, highly desired
-Prior experience in a leadership role
-Passion for responsible tourism and international education
-CPR / First Aid certification required – expense will be covered and/or Wilderness Rescue certification desired

Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
